Scripture printed text: Matthew 1:18-25

Matthew records more fulfillment of O/T prophecy than any of the other gospels. He writes to the Jewish audience concerning the coming Messiah through the linage of King David. Chapter one presents Jesus royal linage; describing His rightful place as heir to David’s throne. This proves that Jesus has the right to be called the King of the Jews. Because He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, which gave Him the right to be called the Son of God, Jesus virgin birth fulfilled old testament prophecy.

Joseph, to whom Mary was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. But God sent an angel to Joseph in a dream to stop the divorce. In the dream, God reassured Joseph that Mary had not been unfaithful and that this was God’s doing. God revealed to Joseph Christ birth, name and divine purpose to save people from their sins.

Church, let us follow Joseph’s example of how he trusted God instead of worrying about how God guides us. God would only command us to do something consistent with His word. Once God clarified the events to Joseph, he married Mary and named the children as instructed. Thank God for choosing two individuals who completely trusted God to use them for His divine purpose, the birth of His Son. Remember, God never makes mistakes! He always has purpose for whatever He does.
